ΦAI (Phi/AI) is a critical, human-centered online magazine at the intersection of technology and the humanities.
We don’t publish tutorials or trends. We ask the deeper questions:
If these are the kinds of questions that keep you up at night (or animate your research, writing, or conversations), you might be one of us.
Read more about our values in our Manifesto.
We look for writing that reflects the values at the heart of ΦAI:
Interdisciplinarity:
We draw connections between fields rarely brought into dialogue because we believe that out of this cross-pollination, new insights emerge.
Meaning over mechanics:
We focus on what AI does to us (as opposed to what it does in general). We care about the emotional, political and societal consequences of its development.
Humanistic inquiry (Humans at the center)
Our pieces deal with human questions: How does this reshape how we think, learn, relate, act, remember, govern, or care? We examine AI systems as embedded in human contexts and worldviews.
